Qualcomm is gearing up for its next revolutinary charging technology which is an upgrade to the already industry standard quick charge 4.0 and 4+. Qualcomm quick charhe 5 is still under developement and not yet ready for commercial use but according to the leaks the upgrades are pretty siginificant and we are going to talk about these upgrades here.

First and foremost is the new charging speed and that is mindblowing. A test suggest that we will be able to charge a 4,500 mAh battery upto 50 percent in 5 minutes while the whole battery will be charged in about 20 minjutes. But with these fast charging speeds the concerns arise about battery health and heating issues. But details suggest that qulacom quick charge will keep the device 10 degrree celcius cooler while still being 70% more efficient that the previous version. Qualcomm quick charge 5 can charge at more than 100W while its predecessor charged at about 45W and less.

Another innvoation in this qualcomm quick charge 5 is os charging smartphones with dual batteries inside at a faster rate than before. This technology also supports power delivery which essentially that phone with quick charge 5 will be able to charge faster even without their proprietary adapters.

For now only Snapdragon’s high end 865 series chipsets support this technology but Qualcomm aims to bring it to its mid range 700 and 600 series chipsets. Forst smartphone with this technology will be able at the end of this year.

With other smartphone manufacturers making their own fast charging technologies its about time that Qualcomm updates its 3 year old charging technology. Let’s see how it competes with othere technologies in the market.
